The exhaust needs to be able to move independently of the engine and body, this is done by using flex pipes on the exhaust. The flex pipe is in constant motion while driving and is therefore a part of the car's exhaust what is under constant stress, and which you often see breaking after years of severe stress.
Avoid replacing the entire catalyst as well as the front silencer (18307568058) due to a defective flex pipe or a bad flange with this repair part that BMW itself does not offer originally!
The defective flex pipe is cut from the original exhaust and this repair part is welded on. This saves you having to buy a completely new exhaust.
